Wild animals---particularly deer---are afraid of what they don't understand, and tend to shy away from the unfamiliar. This is why many animals can sense a hunter without actually seeing him. A tree stand is a great tool for hunting, but it is something foreign to the forest, and can scare game away if you don't take the time to get deer used to your tree stand before actually hunting an area.
Many hunters prefer permanent tree stands because they can stay in the wilderness all year 'round without being stolen or damaged. A climbing tree stand that can be moved each time you hunt will be that much more obvious to a grazing deer, and might scare away all the animals you'd like to hunt. Getting deer used to your tree stand isn't difficult, but it does require some degree of forethought.
First, your tree stand should be out in the woods several days before you decide to start hunting. This gives it a chance to "blend in" with its surroundings, at least to the perception of passing deer. Scout the area around which you'd like to hunt and choose a straight, thick tree that will be sufficient for your stand. Then set it up and leave the hunting grounds entirely until you're ready to set up shop with your gun or bow.
